The Hungarian National Tourist Office (HNTO) has announced that 2010 will be dedicated to festivals. Since 2006, HNTO places a special theme in the center of its marketing communications every year. Accordingly, 2006 was the Year of Gastronomy and Wine, 2007 was dedicated to green tourism, 2008 was the Year of Waters, and last year was the Year of Cultural Tourism. The objective of the national tourism marketing office for the next three years is a strong, unified brand development of Hungary.

The 2010 Year of Festivals will promote multicultural Hungarian festivals and events as more than 3,000 festivals are staged annually, which represent a significant tourist attraction. This year’s campaign will primarily focus on domestic trips, targeting neighboring markets and aims to keep Hungarians in the country.

The Year of Festivals has received its own special image and features the slogan “adventure with you”. Next year’s highlight is to be health tourism.
