After last year's A38 concert, Colombian psych-funk trio BALTHVS will return to Budapest on 21 November to rock the audience with their atmospheric music at the Turbina Cultural Centre.
Colombia's BALTHVS are a three-piece psychedelic funk-rock band who draw on global influences, the spirit of 70s psychedelia, funk, Latin rhythms and ambient to create groove-driven, atmospheric music. Inspired by artists such as Santana, Khruangbin, Thievery Corporation and the Greatful Dead, the trio's music is both nostalgic and forward-thinking - a guitar-driven psychedelic funk-rock experience that is unmistakably their own.
At the heart of the group is Balthazar Aguirre, a self-taught guitarist who began his musical career after a near-tragic rock-climbing accident. The incident made him realise that his true passion was music, and he left his job as a lawyer to found BALTHVS. His musical partners are bassist Vanessa Muñoz and drummer Santiago Lizcano.
Although the group was only formed in 2020, they have already released four albums - their fourth, Harvest, was released last summer and was the first to be recorded as a group during a time spent on a farm in Colombia.
In just five years, BALTHVS have become one of the most vibrant and exciting voices on the indie scene. Their songs have been streamed over 45 million times, sold 10,000 vinyl records, played in 56 cities in 19 countries, performed at SXSW, Outside Lands, Electric Forest, Lollapalooza Chile & Argentina, KEXP and garnered praise from BBC Radio and Gilles Peterson's Worldwide FM.
The band is prolific in terms of songwriting and have already announced their new single Flesh and Soul, due 13 June.
“The song is a spiritual continuation of ‘Year of the Snake’,” the band shares. “It reflects a year of deep transformation—for us as a group, and individually. It also signals a new beginning.”
The Flesh and Soul is a four-track collection of introspective grooves and hypnotic rhythms. The title track moves with a melancholic pulse, intimate yet cinematic in scope.
The songs of Flesh and Soul will soon be performed live at the band's concert in Budapest on 21 November at the Turbina. Tickets will first be available to members of the official BALTHVS fan club on 4 June at 10am, while general ticket sales starting on 6 June at 10am.
