Pendulum is undoubtly one of the most iconic electronic music bands of all time, with their drum and bass and rock fusion music that can conjure up a thick energy both on stage and in the audience. The Australian band last played live in Budapest in 2009 and after 15 years now they will have a new album out, making their 17 October show at Barba Negra in Budapest a must-see event.
Pendulum are back! Following a run of blistering arena and festival dates through 2024, the band return with Inertia, their first album in fifteen years. The 16 track LP comes August 22nd via Mushroom Music. The band have also shared the album’s first cut with ‘Save The Cat’. Listen HERE & watch the video HERE.
Raw, unrelenting and unapologetically heavy, ‘Save The Cat’ is the band at the top of their game. A pure screamo anthem, the track came in the wake of two breakups - one that unraveled slowly over time, and another that hit without warning. “It was written during a period of self-questioning and frustration,” Rob Swire said of the single. “Love felt like something I didn’t fully trust myself with anymore.”.
Produced by Rob Swire and Owen Charles and recorded at Pendulum’s London Studio, Inertia is a rampaging, 16-track emotional maelstrom and without doubt the band’s most personal work to date. Featuring collaborations with Bullet For My Valentine, Wargasm, AWOLNATION, Scarlxrd, Joey Valence & Brae and Hybrid Minds across the album’s tracklist, Inertia began to take shape in 2020 as Rob searched for what it is to be Pendulum in its current era. Stemming from 2021’s Elemental and 2023’s Anima EPs, which were the blueprint for the band’s future, the band found their new direction.
“I was basically testing how far we could push Pendulum,” Rob admits. “Seeing
what we could get away with. I always looked at The Prodigy as the benchmark. They started out as pure rave - breakbeat, hardcore - but they evolved. They became their own sound. You don’t even really associate them with breakbeat anymore. They just are The Prodigy.”
“It’s the sound of Pendulum finding themselves again, and me figuring myself out to a certain extent,” Rob said of the record. “Breakups do that - they strip things down and show you who you are. I’m just trying not to become the guy who needs to go through one just to make a record.”
And Pendulum, known for their raucous and captivating live shows, have really found their way again and will start their tour in the UK in the summer of 2025, before continuing in Europe in the autumn. The band last played live in Hungary in 2022 at the VOLT Festival, and previously played in Budapest at the Sziget in 2009, so it will be a pleasure to see them back on the stage again on 17 October at Barba Negra.
Tickets will be available first for the band’s official fan club members from 10am on 4 June, then registered Live Nation members can join the pre-sale from 10am on 5 June. General on sale starts at 10am on 6 June.
