The almost-hockey-player Canadian singer-songwriter returns to Budapest – Jonathan Roy on A38

11 November 2025

After two years, Jonathan Roy returns to Budapest to present his new album to his Hungarian fans. Following his highly successful 2024 concert, everyone can expect another touching, intimate evening on February 3rd aboard the A38.

“Every song is a journey inward; I want people to feel that they’re not just listening, but living the story with me,” Jonathan says about his musical approach.

Anyone who has seen him live has already experienced this: the songs truly come to life during his concerts. Jonathan’s energy is supported by his professional band, transforming each venue into a sanctuary of storytelling and emotional journeys.

This will be even more prominent with his newly released album Symphony of Doubts, as Jonathan himself admits that he is not just making music here, but writing experiences. “It was very important for us to create this album with the band. We wanted to capture that magic that happens during our shows, where everyone can feel the energy and the connection with the audience,” says the singer-songwriter, who has been actively serving his fans since his 2009 release What I’ve Become. His debut album was soon followed by a second, and in 2011 his first French-language record La Route also came out. With this year’s Symphony of Doubts, his number of full-length albums has risen to seven, which might even justify his candidacy for the title of most productive hockey player-turned-musician, since Jonathan’s musical career was not always obvious. As a child he believed he would become a professional hockey player like his father, NHL legend Patrick Roy. In the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League it seemed he would continue the “family legacy,” but his true passion for music surfaced more and more strongly. He hung up his skates and went to work sharing pieces of his soul with the world.

Every stop along this journey can be found in his songs. Symphony of Doubts is filled with honest lyrics, heartbreaking vulnerability, and sweeping melodies that have clearly redefined Jonathan Roy’s sound and broadened his audience. His good decision is well reflected in more than 120 million Spotify plays and more than 300 million YouTube views, his gold records, and his ever-growing fanbase.

Anyone who wants to experience this uniquely intimate and uplifting journey live can embark on it on February 3rd at Jonathan Roy’s second Hungarian concert aboard the A38. Ticket sales begin on November 12th at 10 AM.
