New York punk legends return to Budapest

23 April 2026

The Casualties released a brand new album this March after an 8-year hiatus. True to its title, Detonate is an explosive record both in sound and themes, and fans will get to go wild to it live on July 2 at Analog Music Hall during the band’s summer tour.

The Casualties were formed in New York in 1990, and over the past 36 years they have become true punk legends. The band has visited Hungary several times over the years, always delivering sweaty, beer-soaked shows, most recently they played at Toxic Weekend.

After more than 8 years, the band released their latest album, Detonate, on March 27:
“Politics. Hatred. Endless war. As we constantly consume the news, we see our rights being stripped away. Bombings. Kidnappings. Mass shootings. The nightly news has become a never-ending list of brutality. Assassinations. Oppression. Deportation. We argue with each other while the rich get richer and cruelty becomes normalized.”
According to the band, these are just a few of the reasons why the album was named Detonate.

“It all comes from being overloaded,” says drummer Marc “Meggers” Eggers. “You feel like your head is about to explode, and I think that’s how everyone feels these days. Every day you’re bombarded with bad news and social media, and it feels like you’re about to snap.”

“Not too long ago, we were stuck in COVID,” adds guitarist Jake Kolatis. “Now we’re trying to return to normal life, but the world has gone crazy. There are constant wars and internal political conflicts. Everyone is tearing each other apart. Detonate says we’re tired of all this division. With this record, we have a chance to speak out and promote some kind of unity.”

Detonate marks the second chapter of a new era for The Casualties. It is the band’s second album with David Rodriguez on vocals (founding singer Jorge Herrera announced in 2017 that he had retired from touring), proving that he is here to stay. With Detonate, the band will explode onto the stage of Analog Music Hall on July 2, proving they are more relevant than ever. Ticket sales for the summer punk frenzy start on April 24 at 11.
