Measure of Quality

One of the most ancient and prestigious milanese maisons officially opens in budapest, in the heart of Europe

22 June 2026

Founded in 1817, Cova has represented for over two centuries the excellence of Italian elegance, craftsmanship and refined hospitality.

The Maison was born in the centre of Milan, just steps from Teatro alla Scala, where it first distinguished itself for the quality of its creations and for a vision of taste that blends style and tradition.

Antonio Cova imagined an elegant and lively place, which soon became one of the city’s main cultural salons. Artists, composers, aristocrats and intellectuals gathered here to share ideas, conversations and a sense of everyday beauty.

After the Second World War, the Maison moved to Via Montenapoleone, in the heart of the Quadrilatero della Moda, strengthening its connection with the worlds of luxury, design and Italian style. Its entry into the LVMH group in 2013 further consolidated the Maison’s international role, today present in more than 35 destinations worldwide.

Budapest Meets Milan: Two Café Cultures, One Shared Vision

The opening of Cova in Budapest represents much more than a new international destination: it is the encounter between two great European traditions. Italy, with its art of living defined by elegance, balance and attention to detail, finds here a naturally aligned environment. Matild Palace, with its history deeply connected to the cultural life of the city, becomes the ideal setting for this dialogue between heritage and contemporaneity.

“For more than two centuries, Cova has remained faithful to the same values: elegance as an everyday gesture, attention to detail, and the art of welcoming with natural ease. In Italy, a morning coffee, a business meeting or an evening aperitivo can all become moments of quality and beauty. Budapest, with its cultural heritage and historic café tradition, is naturally aligned with this philosophy. We are delighted to open a new chapter of Cova’s story here.”- Paola Faccioli, CEO of Cova

“The history of Matild Palace has always been closely connected to Budapest’s café culture. It is especially meaningful to welcome a Maison that has played a similar role in its own city for more than two hundred years. Cova’s arrival is both a tribute to Budapest’s café heritage and the beginning of a new chapter in the Palace’s history. Two great European café cultures meet here, in a place that has always been dedicated to conversation, connection and community.” - Serkan Hüsünbeyi, General Manager of Matild Palace, a Luxury Collection Hotel Budapest

From Morning to Evening: The Cova Experience

Cova Budapest is a place where guests can experience the entire universe of the Maison, from morning to evening.

The morning opens with the ritual of Italian coffee and freshly baked creations.

Lunch celebrates Italian cuisine with iconic dishes and seasonal interpretations.

The afternoon is dedicated to the art of tea.

The evening brings with it the atmosphere of the Milanese aperitivo, reinterpreted in the heart of Budapest.

The soul of Cova is expressed through its most iconic creations. The counter showcases cakes, pralines, chocolates and the celebrated Panettone, prepared according to a tradition spanning more than two centuries. The offer is completed by gift collections, packaged products and seasonal specialties. The kitchen is led by Chef Tonio Greco, whose philosophy reflects the values that have defined Cova for over 200 years: absolute quality, craftsmanship and impeccable attention to the guest experience.

The arrival of Cova in Budapest introduces a new dimension to the cultural landscape of the city: a place where Italian tradition meets Hungarian heritage, giving life to an experience that blends elegance, a sense of time and the art of living. A place where elegance becomes part of everyday life.
