Metallica has teamed up with Red Cross to help restock blood supplies in Hungarian hospitals with the support of band's fans. Registration for the blood drives filled up at record speed, with all available slots booked three weeks before the event, proving that live music is not only capable of bringing people together, but also of inspiring them to help others.
As part of selected European stops on the M72 World Tour, Metallica is organizing blood drives alongside its concerts, including the two Budapest shows. The blood drives take place on June 11 and 12 at Budapest Arena. Together with its foundation, the nonprofit charitable organization All Within My Hands (AWMH), the band is working with Red Cross to help ensure that hospital patients never have to wait for life-saving treatments.
Hungarian fans have been especially enthusiastic, with all available donation appointments filled weeks ahead of the shows, meaning the blood drive will operate at full capacity in Budapest. The 2,000 registered Metallica fans blood donor could help save as many as 6,000 lives. Their donations can help accident victims, cancer patients, new mothers, people living with sickle cell disease, and many others in need of blood.
With this support, Metallica’s Hungarian fans have proven that they can be counted on not only when it comes to collecting unforgettable experiences. Limited-edition merch for fans who come to donate blood available as a thank you to donors.
