On 14 March 2027, Haiden Henderson will performa t Akvárium Klub, the Californian singer-songwriter, guitarist and producer who has become one of alternative pop’s most exciting new voices in just a few years.

    One of the most intriguing things about Henderson’s music lies in its contrasts. One moment it is soft and sensitive; the next, energetic and provocative - while his distinctive voice fits both sides perfectly. His look also strongly evokes the classic rock-star persona: standing over two metres tall, with an electric guitar slung over his shoulder and his signature blond hair, he is hard to miss on stage. Yet his music brings together a surprisingly wide range of influences: alongside rock guitars, there are hip-hop rhythms, R&B melodies and modern pop elements.

    His inspirations include artists such as Prince, Iggy Pop and Justin Timberlake, but Haiden is not simply trying to recreate the iconic figures of previous generations. Rather, he explores what a modern male pop star might look like in 2027: can someone be strong and vulnerable, dominant and playful, confident and uncertain at the same time? And what happens when a person stops trying to live up to the image others expect of them?

    These questions are particularly present on his debut full-length album, bleach, released via Lava/Republic Records. Desire, sexuality, self-discovery, masculinity and identity are at the heart of the record, but behind the album lies an even more personal story. The title bleach became a metaphor for what we are willing to smooth over, change or even erase from ourselves in order to be desired by others.

    Benny Cassette, who has worked with SZA, John Legend and Miguel, among others, played an important part in making the album. One of the guiding principles of their collaboration was not to polish the songs to perfection at all costs. Distortion could remain distorted, imperfections could make it onto the final recordings, and the guitars were sometimes transformed so radically that they barely resembled the traditional instrument. The result is raw, energetic and deliberately imperfect—and that is precisely what makes it feel so human.

    bleach unfolds this world through songs such as “freak for you”, “how you like it”, “i wanna be your girl”, “domino” and “dumblond”. The album also features Zaria Simone, whose voice further strengthens that floating boundary where reality, fantasy and desire blur into one.

    But bleach is not a project without a past. Haiden Henderson’s earlier releases—including Good Grief!, Choke on My Heart, lover boy and tension—have already built the audience that follows him around the world today. With tens of millions of streams, sold-out headline tours across North America, the UK and Europe, and a devoted fanbase known as the “Haider Nation”, Henderson has established a significant international following.

    Henderson does not want to offer ready-made answers about how to be a man, how to desire, love or fully live as oneself. Instead, he asks questions and encourages us to reconsider the rules we may have adopted without even noticing. His aim is not for everyone to agree with him; it is to stir something in the listener. As he puts it: “Whether you hate my music or love it, what matters to me is that it makes you feel something.”
