Travel to the past by visiting the Kádár canteen, near the market hall of Klauzál Square, in the neighborhood of the Jewish district. This little eatery commemorates goulash-communism with its typical low middle-class atmosphere in the city center. The interior recalls the design of the 1970’s with oilcloth table-cloths and soda-water bottles on the tables. In Kádár’s kitchen, operating since 1957, Jewish food is prepared together with those simple but delicious dishes which are only rarely cooked by modern Hungarian housewives.
