From February 21-24, for the first time this year, Foodapest (International food, drink, food machine industry and hospitability trade fair) and UKBA (International Trade Fair for Confectionery, Bakery and Gastronomy) are organized at one time and place, at Hungexpo Budapest Fair Center. Due to the same time and place, visitors can attend the two exhibitions with one entrance ticket.
On the first two days of Foodapest (February 21-22) Hungarian Bocuse d’Or final is organized for the first time in Hungary. Read more about the world cup and the official Hungarian participation!
Fans can support 8 contestants, 8 Hungarian chefs. The one who wins the contest in Hungary can go to the European selection to Geneva this year and to Lyon for the world cup in 2011. “This is something that has never been before” declares Mihály Vécsei Hungexpo pressman. “Spectators will be able to watch the whole show from a grandstand for 500 people. They will be able to watch the whole preparation workflow and will be able to cheer and support their favorite chefs.”
Bocuse d’Or Hungary President Vilmos Kreil is enthusiastic too. “It is going to be an enormous event. We will see a beautiful and cheerful show! On both days the contest starts at 10 a.m., the presenting is at 1 p.m. and the announcement of the daily scores on Sunday is between 3-4 p.m.. The announcing of the final results and the declaration of the winner is on Monday around 4-5 p.m.”
The star guest of the event is going to be the 84 year-old, still active Paul Bocuse, the founder of the gastro-olympics.
According to Vilmos Kreil, it is a very important moment in the history of Hungarian gastronomy because the founder himself rarely visits country finals. “Paul Bocuse, seeing all the effort that we put in the organisation and the preparation of the contest, decided to visit the Hungarian final. He believes that the Academy takes its tasks seriously. He seems to be really satisfied with the work we do in Hungary.”
Kálmán Kalla is going to be the Hungarian head of the jury and Charles Tjessem, the Norwegian winner of Bocuse d’Or world championship in 2003 will represent the international jury. The Hungarian Bocuse d’Or Academy organizes the local semi-finals and the country final of the chef Olympiad in Hungary. However, the rest of the work is still ahead; before the European final in Geneva, the Academy is going to support the preparation of the winner.
A supreme occasion will take place during the two days too: by favor of the Academy, chefs and other lovers of gastronomy will be able to stand in one photograph with the founder Paul Bocuse. You just have to
register before the event.
