Training embassy chefs at the METRO Academy
On behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a training was organized on Aug 5-9 at the METRO Customer Academy for Hungarian chefs working at embassies. Reinterpretation of Hungarian cuisine was in focus.

The one-week long training was brought to life by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in order to introduce new ingredients and techniques to chefs working at diplomatic missions, thereby helping them improve their culinary services. Chefs from 17 foreign missions took part in the training, arriving from all over the world, including Tokyo, Ottawa, Madrid, London. Mariann Kiss, former family cook for Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, also attended the event from the Consulate General in New York. The chefs were assisted by accomplished Hungarian professionals such as Krisztián Huszár, the chef of ZONA, Gábor Mogyorósi, the chef of Laci!Konyha and chef Péter Várvizi. (The three chefs were finalists at the well-known Tradition & Evolution culinary competition. They are the chefs of Michelin-starred restaurants, boutique restaurants and cooking schools.)
One of the tasks was to prepare an entire modern Hungarian four-course dinner using carp, foie gras, green beans and duck breast as ingredients. Wine and gastronomy advisor Helga Gál chose wines to accompany the meals and she will gave a presentation on the relation between wine and food. (During Hungary’s EU presidency, the country’s first female sommelier Helga Gál presented wine to diplomats and politicians on about 260 occasions.)
Similar to last year’s training METRO Customer Academy hosted the illustrious event, supplying impeccable technical background and excellent ingredients to contribute to the development of Hungarian gastronomy.
