Ferran Adria to close El Bulli Restaurant
The world famous Spanish chef, Ferràn Adrià says he will be closing his restaurant El Bulli for two years in order to dedicate time to generate new ideas for his “molecular cuisine”.
The El Bulli restaurant in Girona, north of Barcelona has been awarded with three Michelin stars and was voted the best restaurant in the world last year for the fourth time in a row by the UK magazine “Restaurant”.
The Michelin star restaurant will close in 2012 and 2013 allowing the chef to find time for himself and his family and in order to cook up what’s next for the future of cooking.
Adria recently made headlines as he announced plans to open the world’s first Gastronomic University in Spain.

The world’s first “gastronomic university”
The world’s first “gastronomic university” is set to be established in Spain and students worldwide will now have the chance to master the skill of ‘molecular gastronomy’ in state of the art facilities at the university being set up.
The construction started last month in San Sebastian at the Basque Culinary Centre and the first batch will commence September next year.
The courses being offered are a four year-undergraduate course in culinary arts, which the students will be able to learn in both English and Spanish, and a masters course of one year duration in addition to some short term courses for people wanting to improve their culinary skills.
Famous Spanish restaurateur and El Bulli owner Ferran Adria will impart skills to the students and it is believed that British chef and Fat Duck owner Heston Blumenthal will also be invited as a guest faculty.

The Beauty and the Diet
As the Spanish government tries to reduce the number of food disorders and ameliorate the mental condition of young women obsessed with their appearance and weight, TV commercials which endorse diet and beauty products may be stopped from airing before 10 PM.
These products are now considered even more dangerous than alcohol, advertisements for which can be aired after 9 PM.
According to the new law, advertisements which cast a negative impact on self-image and recommend products encouraging the cult of the body, and which cite one’s physical appearance or looks as a factor relating to success or social rejection, will not be allowed to be broadcasted. The aim of banning these commercials is to prevent the teenagers from becoming anorexic and bulimic.
