The Furmint wine tasting was first organized on February 25 this year, as the peak of Furmint February programs. More than 35 wineries from Hungary and abroad took part in the event in Budapest in the Festetics Palace. The sign of the real success was that not only many exhibitors but wine-lovers were also interested in the tasting program which attracted full house.
The event was organised by Vinoport.hu Online Wine website. “We are really pleased that we could welcome more than 250 guests and they were all interested in one of Hungary’s unique Hungaricums, the Furmint wine” declared the organizers. “We did not plan a mega-event with huge tastings because many wines in the list are of a small harvest. We wanted to present quality.”
This wine tasting was quite special. Organizers found it essential to invite wine-producer because guests need to be able to talk with them.
This meant that people who poured wine in the glasses at the table side were the producers themselves whom people could talk and ask questions from.
Another important part of the event conception was that guests had been ‘prepared’ before tasting the different wines. By the time they got to taste the Furmints, they had already received a description about them, two days before the program.
The organizer Vinoport.hu is satisfied with the first Furmint-tasting event. “We had already observed that wine-lovers are getting more and more interested in the quality Furmints in the recent years. With this program, we want to make a wider range of people take notice of this special and really delicious wine. This event was the first step and we suppose it is going to continue next year too.”
